What's everyone excited for?
2025 is shaping up to be the year of Sega for me. I've been a long time Virtua Fighter fan, but I haven't honestly played it since VF2 on the Saturn. They're doing a PC remaster of VF5 with rollback netcode, online tournament support, and bunch of cool stuff to modernize the franchise. It's coming out later this month.
Here's the trailer for VF5 REVO:
Sega seems pretty intent on getting VF back into the competitive fighting game scene and I'm 100% onboard. Fighting games have changed a lot since I was playing, it's gotten super technical. It's to the point that people count out the frames of animation and have developed their own language for a bunch of hyper-specific concepts. It's been fun watching videos and learning more about VF and modern fighting games in general.
The second big game for me in 2025 is the new Like a Dragon game coming out in February! I love Yakuza and all it's spin offs, and Majima is one of my favorite characters. It's going to be a lot of fun to play as him and get to do all the pirate stuff. They even got the wrestler Samoa Joe to play a character in the game! And there's a pet tiger cub that follows you around! I am thinking this might be the first Yakuza/LAD game I finally 100%. I've been on a bit of a kick to complete all the Steam achievements for games lately, and I want to do a big one.
Here's the trailer for that one:
So between those two, Rivals, and some odd and end casual games I've been playing on my Steam Deck, my 2025 is looking packed as far as video games. What about you guys?
